I’m a rare white grape from Monferrato.
My cousin “Barbera” is super famous, but I’m pretty amazing too! Don’t get confused, though – “Carica l’Asino” is a completely different vine! Some call me “Bertolino,” “Bertulin,” “Martinelta,” or “Peigein.” Others confuse me with “Carica l’Asino,” but we’re completely different grapes!
Let me introduce myself: my skin is thick, and my grapes are medium-sized with a golden-yellow color.
Where do I thrive? I’m a native Piedmont vine, thriving in the Province of Alessandria in Monferrato. You can also find me in Abruzzo.
Here I give my best: the Acqui Terme wine district is where I truly shine!

Where do I shine? You can find me in 1 DOC and 8 IGT.
My signature wine
It’s hard to find me outside of Piedmont. Come visit us and try me here!
Did you know? I nearly disappeared, but thanks to some careful farmers around Acqui Terme, a few rows of me are still protected with great care.
