I’m a V.I.P. vine from Piedmont, famous all over Italy and beyond!
My wines can take on many personalities depending on the aging method, sun exposure, soil, vintage, and whether they’re still or sparkling. How I’m crafted by the winemaker decides if I’m meant to be enjoyed young or aged for years. In Italian, ‘che barba’ (which sounds similar to Barbera) means ‘how boring,’ but don’t worry—I’m all fun, no boredom, even with my beard!
Let me introduce myself: my grapes are dark blue, and my pulp is incredibly juicy.
Where do I thrive: I’m all over Italy, but you’ll find me shining in Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, and Sardinia.
Here I give my best: In Asti and the Monferrato wine regions, where I’m celebrated! I have countless DOCs across Piedmont.

Where do I shine?
You can find me in 3 DOCG, 34 DOC and 105 IGT.
My signature wine
Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG, Nizza DOCG
They even sang about me
Let’s toast together to our sorrows with your glass of Barbera and my glass of Champagne. *Translated from the original lyrics, song “Barbera e Champagne” by Giorgio Gaber.
My wines have a distinct acidity, low tannin levels, and a pretty high alcohol content.
