I’m a rare and very old vine white grape from Alto Monferrato!
Don’t confuse me with Barbera Bianca—we’re completely different grapes! My famous relatives include Vermentino and Pigato from Liguria, the region to the south of Piedmont, a narrow strip of land nestled between the mountains and the Ligurian Sea, where the sea breeze adds a delightful salinity to the wines, even reaching the southern parts of Piedmont.
Let me introduce myself: my grapes are big and green-golden yellow. My bunch is medium to large, elongated, and has well-spaced berries.
Where do I thrive? I grow in Piedmont, especially in the provinces of Alessandria and Novara.
Here I give my best: I truly shine in the Acqui Terme wine district in Alto Monferrato, where locals call me “carialoso.”

Where do I shine? You won’t find me in any GIs (Geographical Indications).
A hidden treasure
It’s hard to find me outside of Piedmont. Come visit us and try me here!
Did you know? Farmers in the past used to carry my grapes up and down steep hills on the back of a donkey.
