Croatina’s tale and its surprising bond with Bonarda. What a mess with all these names!
I produce excellent wines, especially in eastern Piedmont. Don’t get mixed up: in the Oltrepò Pavese wine district, I’m used to make Bonarda dell’Oltrepò Pavese DOC, but that has nothing to do with Piedmont’s Bonarda, which is another grape! In all other DOCG wine districts, only Bonarda vines can be labeled as Bonarda.
Let me introduce myself: my grapes are turquoise and covered with a rich bloom.
Where do I thrive? You’ll find me all over Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna (especially near Piacenza), and Veneto.
Here I give my best: In Piedmont, I give my best on the hills of Tortona and in the Vercelli and Novara wine districts.

Where do I shine? You can find me in 16 DOC and 34 IGT.
My signature wine
Cisterna d’Asti DOC, Colli Tortonesi Croatina DOC, Colline Novaresi Croatina DOC, Coste della Sesia Croatina DOC.
Did you know? In my Piedmontese wines, Croatina makes up at least 80% of the blend!
